The Expansion of the Panama Canal to handle bigger boats required the widening and removing of some of the tighter turns in the cut but also required the installation of a new sets of lock gates.

The shear volume of soil and rock that was removed is staggering and the number of truck loads taken out have been carefully tracked as some of it will have to be returned for fill and landscaping when completed.

The gates themselves were fabricated in Europe and transported by heavy lift ships to Panama and are in the process of being installed
